James & Associates Overcomes Record Setting Winter

DES MOINES, IA (April 20, 2008) - This winter brought its share of challenges to James & Associates construction sites in Des Moines, Iowa. The city is on the tail of a record setting winter with severe cold spells, freezing rain and a dumping of snow.

From January to April, snowfall in Des Moines topped nearly 40 inches - 16 inches more than the average year. The snowfall, combined with 6.4 inches of rain, last winter set records previously dating back to the early 1940s.

At James & Associates, leaders effectively navigated the unpredictable weather and challenging site conditions to keep The Rose of East Des Moines project on track and on budget. Staff went the extra mile, working weekends to complete the 64-unit affording senior assisted living facility.

"It was not always easy," said Jim Schmitz, CEO of J&A. "But our dedicated crew made it happen to allow us to stay on track when others were falling behind."

James & Associates successfully completed the project without requesting any change orders.

"That's almost unheard of," Schmitz said. "It really speaks to our commitment to providing our clients fair, cost-effective solutions."
